Chasing the Moon

We took off in the car to chase the moon, watching it peek out at us through tree branches as we searched for the perfect spot, the perfect angle, the perfect view. It tantalized us until we finally pulled over to the side of the road near Big River Bridge to take a few shots.

Tonight the full moon is the largest it has been in twenty years.

  1. They came out great! I'm sure I should know the answer to this question, but which one is the Big River Bridge?

  2. Those two pictures I was happy with. Night picture are difficult to take as I'm sure you know.Quite a few turned out poorly but I was happy to have two to post. Honestly, though, last month when we saw the moon come up while we were in the Forites we were really wowed. This time it may have been because we weren't right there when it came up over the horizon.

The Big River Bridge is that big bridge on the way to the Forties.

  3. I figured that was the one.

Did you know that the full moon in March is called the Worm Moon? So says the Farmer's Almanac. The settlers considered it to be the last full moon of the winter season. There's a nice thought!

  6. Why Worm Moon? Because the earth begins to thaw in March and earthworms start to appear, heralding the return of the robins. It looks like the full moon in March is known by a few different names, here's where I found the info. http://www.farmersalmanac.com/full-moon-names/

    Neat stuff.

  8. @Smel I thought maybe it had to do with the earthworms thawing out. Thanks for the link!

  9. First, I LOVE the look--celebratory of spring. And somehow, it reminds me of your book. :-) But I'm confuzzled--you have two blogs! I missed that memo, somewhere. Will add this one to my blogroll.
Secondly...oh, those photos...they are exquisite! Beautifully done. A lovely moonmento.
Okay, I obviously need more coffee when I start making moon puns.

  10. Thanks Jodi. I haven't really promoted this blog. Haven't mentioned it on Facebook either. I just started it last week because I didn't have enough things to keep me busy..(Okay, that's a sick joke.) I thought it might be fun to do. I'm not much a photographer but hey, I'll give it a shot..Hmm guess my puns aren't so moonmentos either.
